Miss Rodeo & Miss Teen Rodeo to attend PRCA Camp at Gerry

The Gerry Fire Department’s Rodeo Committee has just received word that both Miss Rodeo New York and Miss Teen Rodeo New York will be in attendance at the free PRCA Camp on May 9 as well as the four-day pro rodeo August 5-8. The girls were selected in competition at the Glens Falls Civic Center and will spend 2015 traveling the State and the country to promote professional rodeo and the Western way of life that was so important to the development of America. Free PRCA Roughstock Rodeo Camp – May 9, 2015

The Gerry Rodeo Committee has just been notified that they have been selected by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association as one of only thirteen rodeo sites nationwide to host a free PRCA Championship Rodeo Camp on Saturday, May 9, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

2014 Rodeo Final Results

The final day of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department’s 70th annual PRCA rodeo saw extremes in weather conditions for the final two performances as sunshine and ideal arena conditions greeted the fans and competitors for the 2:00 matinee while a violent thunderstorm shortly before the evening competition turned the arena into a sea of mud.
The contrast in conditions, however, did not prevent the fans from seeing some outstanding efforts with a number of the pro cowboys and cowgirls moving up in the standing in their events, particularly in the evening as they battled through the poor conditions to reward the 750 fans who braved the storm. Friday Night Performance

Ideal weather, outstanding stock, and 190 top pro rodeo competitors combined to bring one of the largest crowds in years to the rodeo arena for the third performance of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department’s 70th annual PRCA event on Friday night.
Clovis Crane of Lebanon, Pa., became a favorite of the fans for his “iron man” performance as he paid nearly $500 to enter four different events on the night, a feat seldom duplicated in rodeo. He mounted two bulls and had bad luck as he was bucked off by both. He made a 59 point ride in the bareback event and had his horse perform poorly in the saddle bronc ride, giving him a re-ride on a different mount where he scored 74 points. His best showing came in the steering wrestling where he threw his steer in 10.1 for the second fastest time of the night. His versatility and endurance have earned him national honors on several occasions. (Read More Here)

The second performance of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department’s 70th rodeo emphasized patriotism with special tributes to our military and firefighters as well providing the fans with non-stop professional rodeo action.
A “first time ever” event began the evening as 20 new recruits were sworn into the United States Army in a ceremony in the rodeo arena, followed by a standing ovation for the present and former members of the military in attendance. Following the presentation of the colors by the Cassadaga (NY) Legion Post, eight and six year old Gabi and Lexi Graham, daughters of the rodeo contractors, delighted the crowd with their rendition of the National Anthem. Rain during the day and a resulting muddy arena made the opening night of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department’s 70th annual PRCA rodeo a bit tough on the competitors but failed to dampen their efforts or the enthusiasm of the fans.
The thirteen bareback and saddle bronc riders who came out of the chutes was the largest number to compete in Gerry in years and fans saw a number of outstanding rides. Justin Miller traveled from Billings, Montana, to post the high score in the bareback event aboard a bronc called Spots and Dots with an 81 point ride. High score in the saddle broncs was 75 points by an Iowa cowboy, Logan Hullinger, on a Painted Pony Rodeo bronc named Idiot (Read More Here)

Texan Jacobs Crawley will compete in the saddle bronc event at the Gerry Rodeo after winning nearly $80,000 in 2013 and placing fourth in the World Rankings
Four of the top bronc riders in the World Rankings will be among the record setting number of 192 pro cowboys and cowgirls who will be competing for more than $45,000 in prize money when the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department opens the gates for the first night of five performances at the 70th annual PRCA rodeo on Wednesday, July 28.
The contestants, who hail from 26 states and Quebec, include brothers from Texas, saddle bronc riders Jacobs and Sterling Crawley, who are currently at seventh and eleventh in the World Rankings, as well as nine-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier and 2012 World Champion, Cody DeMoss.
Last year’s NFR Rookie of the Year, Tim O’Connell, who is at number eight in the bareback rankings, will test his skills in that event. Competing in the ladies’ barrel racing is Taylor Jacobs, who holds the arena record at the nationally televised NFR in Las Vegas. (Read More Here)
2014 Kids FREE Rodeo – August 2, 2014

A free kids’ rodeo at 11:00 AM will kick off a full final day of action Saturday, August 2, at the Gerry Fire Department’s 70th annual PRCA rodeo as kids ages three through eight are invited to participate in rodeo related games in the arena. Registration begins at 10:00 with parents signing a permission form. Each entrant will receive a numbered contestant back tag, and the kids will be divided into two age groups – six to eight and three to five. (Read More Here)
Roast Beef Dinners @ Gerry Rodeo

Not only does the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department’s annual rodeo give the area a chance to experience outstanding professional rodeo competition, but approximately 4000 food lovers line up during the four-day event for the once-a-year opportunity to enjoy one of the most unusual dinners served anywhere.
The main attraction is the roast beef that is cooked for eight hours over open wood fires. Fire department president Bruce Gustafson, who also serves as the head chef, says that they began cooking at 5:00 each (Read More Here)

“Hollywood” Harris will be challenging the bulls and entertaining the fans at the 70th annual Gerry Rodeo.
One of the top entertainers in professional rodeo has been signed as the clown and barrel man for the 70th Gerry Fire Department’s PRCA rodeo scheduled for five performances from July 30 through August 2. Clifton “Hollywood” Harris is in his 30th year of entertaining fans and performs in more than 40 rodeos across the country each year, including appearances at the Professional Bull Riders Finals and the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Last summer’s winner of the All-Around Cowboy title at the Gerry Fire Department’s PRCA rodeo has set a record unprecedented in pro rodeo history at the recent Dodge Ram First Frontier Finals Rodeo in Harrisburg, Pa., as he won four year-end championships and did it while competing on a badly broken right leg.
Clovis Crane of Lebanon, Pa., claimed season championships in the saddle bronc, bareback, and bull riding events and, as a result, was also named All-Around Cowboy, making him the first four event circuit winner ever, breaking the record of three held by more than a dozen cowboys, several of whom are members of the Hall of Fame.(Read More Here)

Gerry Rodeo Participants Shine At National Finals
